Job Announcement:

Germantown is seeking a dynamic and approachable leader to be its next Director of Public Works. Germantown is in Washington County, just north of the Interstate 94 Corridor with close access to the major economic and cultural center of Milwaukee. The community has had excellent growth in recent years presenting both opportunities and challenges. The village desires to maintain the pace of growth with a balance of residential, commercial and industrial development. As a result of this goal, Village planning places great focus on economic development objectives and implementation strategies. However, enhancing the community’s authentic small-town character and attaining a high quality of life that is accessible to all community residents remains the heart of the village’s vision for the future. The salary range: $115,000 – $119,810K DOQ, plus excellent benefits. Relocation assistance is available for this position. The Director reports to the Village Administrator. The village government is comprised of a Village President and Eight Trustees elected on a non-partisan basis. The 2023 Department operating budget is $18.5M including: Yard Waste & Sanitation, Street Maintenance, Fleet, Engineering (contract) Water, Wastewater and Stormwater. The Director leads a staff of 46 total employees. The city 2023 Capital Improvement Budget is $1.6M which the DPW Director also oversees.

This position requires advanced professional knowledge in modern theories, principles and practices of public works administration, engineering, capital project construction management, field maintenance operations and program development. Requires knowledge of applicable laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations governing modern and accepted public works construction, maintenance, and engineering practices. Requires experience in budget preparation and administration, the financial management of capital projects as well as effective written and oral communication skills necessary to interact with a wide variety of individuals including members of the public, vendors, contractors, Village staff, and elected officials.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university 5 – 7 years in progressively responsible management positions in charge of a variety of engineering staff and large construction projects, or any combination of experience that provides the equivalent knowledge. The individual must possess or be able to obtain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license. Registration as a Professional Engineer in Wisconsin is required.
